Xavier Mission: What does it mean to you? Why is Xavier’s mission important to Xavierites? To the University? To the Alumni? How do you imagine yourself upholding, supporting, and/or fulfilling the mission? What does Xavier do to uphold this mission?

Xavier Mission

Posted by maj0615 on October 31, 2008

The Xavier mission is very important to me. In this day and age, we do need a more just and humane society. There’s a lack of respect going around and by following the mission, I would like to do my part by respecting others as well as myself. We need to learn up how to treat others with respect and live up to the expectations of the mission everyday. This mission should be our guide and not be forgotten from day to day. The mission is important to Xavierites because its what we live everyday, or, at least the way we’re supposed to be. To the University, the mission should mean everything. If staff, faculty, etc. did not live up to these expectations, how are they going to be an example for us? To Alumni, the mission is instilled within them. My sister graduated from the university in 2004 and she learned a lot as a student at Xavier. She has taken with her everything Xavier University has taught, and even the mission is still strong in her life. She’s back in school, still reminding herself of Xavier’s mission statement.

We really should be more just and fair to everyone and treat others as we would want to be treated.

Xavier’s Mission

Posted by Famous Washington on October 4, 2008

Xavier’s mission to me is to prepare African American students, along with other minorities for a future in the real world. The school is helping to instill in its students values that they will hold on to long after they graduate with a degree. Education is the main goal that Xavier is striving to accomplish the institution wants one of its students to not only graduate but to graduate and go on to make something of themselves, to do something with their lives and become succesful. I will strive to uphold this mission statement by being one of those people who leave this school with not only a sense of pride and dignity but also a greater understanding of the world and how one’s influence affects those around him. Xavier upholds this mission by providing an exemplary education with proffessors who are willing to work with their students so that obtain the best education possible and take away more from the class than just knowledge but also learn valuable lessons for life.

Xavier’s Mission

Posted by NeNe Lewis on October 3, 2008

The Xavier’s mission states “Xavier University of Louisiana is Catholic and historically Black. The ultimate purpose of the University is the promotion of a more just and humane society. To this end, Xavier prepares its students to assume roles of leadership and service in society. This preparation takes place in a pluralistic teaching and learning environment that incorporates all relevant education means, including research and community service.” To me the mission statement means that at Xavier there is a plan already in place for you as a student at Xavier to complete. The statement means that Xavier is on a mission to do all they can  to better the futures of African Americans and other minorities. It is important to the Xavierites because we as students of this universityneed to know if there’s a plan to help us to become the doctors, pharmacist, etc. that we are hear to become. I also believe that the statement is a goal that Xavier has set for its students to fulfill. In the statement it talks about service in society and leadership. They both are very important. Giving back to communities and showing a great deal of leadership alone with a great education will make you a very successful person. The mission statement is saying that Xavier can make you a successful person. The mission statement is important to the alumni because it is something they did to become the person they is today. I imagine myself upholding the mission statement by learning the information I am and will be taught at Xavier, doing community service, and showing leadership in anyway possible. To learn the information I am being taught at Xavier I will attend class everyday and study sessions if they are available.

Me and the Mission

Posted by Smoove Haskins on September 28, 2008

Everyone who goes to Xavier has been asked if they know Xavier’s mission. Interestingly enough even though I thought I had thoroughly done my research about my university of choice, and even I did no know the schools mission. However, know I that the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana is ultimately to “promote a more just and humane society”. Therefore I can see how and why Xavierites are prepared to assume roles of leadership and service in the community. Now honestly, I usually think companies, organizations, and institutions only use mission statements to sound as if they genuinely care about a specific subject when they don’t. However, I believe in the mission statement of the university as proposed through Dr. N.C. Francis and St. Katherine Drexel is one that expresses the direct intents of their hearts and the university. I enjoy attending a school that has concern for the confined student body but for the community as well. I appreciate that although Xavier University of Louisiana, my university, is a historically black college in a predominately black area, the sincerity expressed about the concern for the ENTIRE COMMUNITY. Not just the black parts or the white parts but all parts, because we are all parts of one whole. The truth be told I truly believe that Xavier is working to produce hearts with greater concern for humanity. I am happy to be given this privelege to learn more about myself and the community that I reside within and it gives me a greater understanding of what means to be a health professional, “a servant of society”.

The Xavier Mission….

Posted by Shannon Taylor on September 21, 2008

What does the Xavier Mission mean to me?

I can first start off by saying the Xavier mission Statement means one word to me: Accomplishment

The mission statement expresses how Xavier is a historically black institution. Being an historically black college is a lot in itself. The African American race has come so far in history. We have overcome tremendous mile stones throughout history. We have fought against slavery. We have earned the right to vote. We earned jobs as doctors’ lawyers, CEO’s, Pharmacists and many more. Xavier is an institution of the betterment of not just African Americans but for all races. It is a school of higher learning. It’s a place where a student can go and feel at home. Students who attend Xavier are exposed to the so many learning experience outside of there majors. The teachers prepare the students for life in the job field and in the growing experience.

As a Xavierite, I plan to withhold the mission by presenting myself as a respectable person. I will work to the best if my ability. I will respect everyone I come across. I will try to understand everyone. No matter how different I am from my neighbor. As my teacher teach me and prepare me for life, I will listen and learn. I will work hard and carefully to achieve my set goals in life. So when I become and alumni I will proudly be able to say “Xavier has brought me where I am today as a pharmacist”

What the mission statement means to me

Posted by Danielle Kennebrew on September 20, 2008

The mission statement says “Xavier University of Louisiana is Catholic and historically Black. The ultimate purpose of the University is the promotion of a more just and humane society. To this end, Xavier prepares its students to assume roles of leadership and service in society. This preparation takes place in a pluralistic teaching and learning environment that incorporates all relevant educational means, including research and community service.” You may be wondering what this mission statement means. To me it symbolizes the excellence that the university is rooted in. Meaning the goal after attending Xavier University of Louisiana would be to become an effective asset to the community, because one would be prepared to take up leadership roles in order to better to the community an or society one would be in. This mission statement is important to Xavierites, the University and to the Alumni because it represented us, when people ask you what school do you attend or what school did you attend and you will say Xavier University of Louisiana they know that the institution produces upcoming physicians as well as great people rooted in faith, hope, love and community. I imagine myself upholding this mission by being the best me I can be which is in the classroom on the basketball court and in my community. Xavier upholds the mission by giving the students the opportunity to succeed in the classroom and the opportunity to change the community by servicing it and the opportunity to become a better person.

Jasmine Grant:Mission

Posted by Jasmine Grant on September 19, 2008

Xavier mission statement means a lot to me. It is one of the reasons that I chose to attend Xavier. The mission gives you opportunity and makes sure education comes first. Xavier talks to us as students and tells us the little things to stay on track that most college students take for granted, such as time management. Xavier makes sure students stay on the right track and that our mission is achieved. Xavier’s mission is important to Xavierites because it is what is expected of us as students of Xavier University. It gives us a stanard and makes us want to strive to live up to this mission. It is our responsibility to achieve this mission and to do right by our society. The mission statment is important to the university because it is what is expected of all the students and faculty. It is what we as one are all striving to achieve and see what we can do better. The missionn statement means to the alumni a lot also. To see that things are still the same, still expected, and still creating better futures for us as young individuals. I see myself striving to the best of my ability to go by the mission statement. I am here for a reason. I am here to reach all of my intended goals and that is what I plan on doin. Xavier upholds thier mission statement but being active in all of the student lives. Helping them in any way possible. They offer so many things to help you achieve your goals and they stress the little things. One of the things that has stuck with me the most is the time management. I ahve to manage my time between basketball and school work. As long as I keep my priortorities in order  I will do just fine.

Xavier’s Mission.

Posted by Phuong Dao on September 18, 2008

Xavier’s mission is one of the sole purpose of why I chose this university to attend. The mission of Xavier means very much to me, it’s what gave me the confidence to attend college. Not only does Xavier mission gives you opportunity, they also teach and show you how to take advantage it. Most college rarely walk you through your future, Xavier makes sure that your future is on track. The university uphold their mission, they stick to it and make sure that their mission is achieved.

The mission is important for the xavierites because it gives them a standard for their achievements, gives them hope, encouragement, and confidence. The mission makes Xavier different from every other university out there on the market, it stands them out from the ordinary, it makes this university extraordinary! What it means to the alumni? This mission is like the heart of the alumni, it’s what keeps everybody moving and pumping.

I hope to uphold this mission by keeping my standards high and achieving it and breaking out my high school habits. I hope to maintain high grade point average, accomplish all my difficult goals, and still maintain my time. I want to encourage not only my friends around me to do the same but everyone around me. Xavier’s mission was one the many reason why I graduated from high school, it gave me a sense of courage I couldn’t find. It made me felt that even the underdogs can come up on top. I can only hope that I don’t fail the Xavier’s mission.

How does Xavier uphold this mission statement? Just take a good look at the students and faculty. That’s how you know they uphold their mission.

With <3,

Phuong :]

Mission

Posted by Maryam Kanj on September 18, 2008

Xavier’s mission is to promote a more just and humane society. What this means to me is that its to make a more helpful and fair society for everyone to live in. Xaviers mission is imoprtant to Xaverites because its our responsability  to complete this mission and make sure we make our society a fair and helpful societ we have to make sure that everyone follows this mission because its really imoprtant to Xavier and in order to be a good xavieritie we need to follow it.What this mission means to Xavier University is that its also the Unversitys job to make sure all the xaverites follow this mission and help the complete it. Its also important to the alumni because they have followed the mission and expect that everyone else that attends Xavier aslo follow it they also lived through the mission and know how impoetant it really is. I imagin myself fulfilling the mission by trying to help others in my society by doing community service. Also by helping my peers fufill the mission to. I will keep things fair and humane in the society. Xavier upholds this mission by helping there students reach there goals to getting into the profession that the student is attending for. They also help you by making things avaliable on capus so that way we dont have to worry about going somewere else to find help like for example the helped all the student who lived on campus evacuate for the hurricane they gave them transportation and a place to stay.

X.U. Mission

Posted by Ty'Sha Jarrow on September 17, 2008

Growing up I never really thought that school’s missions was of importance, but as I got older I realized they are meaningful. Upon choosing my school, I never thought to read their missions to see what they strive for. After reading Xavier’s, I’m happy I chose to be a Xavierite. I always have strived for nothing but excellence and being a leader in the making, I know that one day I will become a major leader. Xavier’s mission means alot, I mean who wouldn’t won’t nothing but the best for their self. I know that’s my motto reach for the top, or don’t reach at all. It’s a blessing to know that when you face reality in the real world you’re not doubtful of how you’re going to make it, because you know you have an awesome background  and a great deal of knowledge that will get you there. I believe Xavier plays a major role in helping you. Xavier’s mission means alot to me because I know that it’s not just a university that just collects tution and doesn’t even care if I show up in class or not. Some people may not believe in Xavier’s mission, but I know when I tell folks I attend Xavier University thr first thing I hear is you have a wonderful chance of fulfilling yours dreams there. So, upon attending Xavier I’ve realized that mission’s means alot. It’s a great boast of spirits, and uplifting. It makes you won’t nothing but the best. You know that if previous peers were able to accomplish then so can you.

xula mission

What is the mission of Xavier University? It’s, “the promotion of a more just and humane society. To this end, Xavier prepares its students to assume roles of leadership and service in society. This preparation takes place in a pluralistic teaching and learning environment that incorporates all relevant educational means, including research and community service.” The broadest way to explain this mission is to say Xavier University hopes to spark the minds of their students so that one day they will take the society closer to a humanity.

Xavierites have a certain respect for their university. This is one of the reasons we try to apply our mission to our lives everyday. Having pride in your school community gives you reason to strive to represent it in a positive way. Maintaining a good image is one of the vital things that will help us to make our society more humane and just. Xavier upholds the mission by providing hands on learning, community services, and having professors who want their students to take something from their class and not just making the grade.

One way I imagine myself upholding the mission is to be morally correct. This contributes to me making the society more just and humane. If just one person can take something from our mission it has made a difference. I will also fulfill the mission by helping peers when ever I am able to; lead by following someone who came before me, and giving my best to any community I belong to.

Week 2: XULA’s Mission

Posted by Mike Tran on September 15, 2008

What does XULA’s mission mean to me? I think it means once a Xavier student steps foot on campus they have a mission in mind. Xavier mission is to accomplish that person mission with success. Why is Xavier’s mission important to Xavierites? The reason why Xavier’s mission is important to Xavierites is because we chose this school for a reason. They care about us to thrive us to the top where we belong. Even though outside of school we might not the  have the support, but when we go to Xavier all the staffs show open arms.

How do I try to uphold myslef to fulfill my mission? First, My family and friends are plays a big part for my determination. I would be the first one to graduate in my family and that is something very special to me. My friends, you do not want to be left out when you see your friends graduate. So that will give me that extra strive. I will also try not to work as much because it will be hard trying to balance two major things in life. And right now school is way more important. Distractions is a big thing. I try to put distractions away like myspace, etc. I think those are time killers. What does Xavier have to do to uphold this mission? I do not think Xavier has to do anything but constantly keep up the great job. I seen so many graduates coming out of Xavier and I know for a fact that they know what they are doing.

XU’s Mission

Posted by Edward Hill,III on September 15, 2008

To me, Xavier’s mission statement basically means be all that you can be for you and for your society. When I first thought about coming to, Xavier I didn’t think I would want to be effective in the local community. But as I arrived all I basically thought about was what I could do to make the campus and the surrounding areas a better place. Kids in the area are being exsposed to a lot of things like the after affects from katrina, killing, and the drug dealing. I would like to take a stand and be an example of a person who went to college to be somebody. Not by getting a name on the street but for what I did for the streets to make it a better place. I feel  that the mission statement is important to Xavierites, the University, and the Alumni because the probably feel the way I do. Many people have different opinions. Those different opionions help make a compromise to begin working on making our school and the area a safer place. Everyone needs the chance to be heard and Xavier is the place that you are given that opportunity. I hope to fulfill the mission statement by being a little boy or girls hero. Not by what I have done to get here but what Ive done after I got here and graduated. I don’t want to be just an ordinary person with a couple of degrees. I want to be the person with the degrees and a heart for the community and the people it withholds. Xavier gives every individual the opportunity to exspress theirself and make a difference. No one person who wants to make a difference would suffer for the ones who don’t. They WILL be heard.

Xavier Mission

Posted by tammar williams on September 12, 2008

Xavier’s mission statement is “the promotion of a more just and humane society”. This mission is very brief but it can and does say a lot about the institution and the students within the institution. At first, this statement did not really mean that much to me; as I dug a little bit deeper and really analyzed the point that was trying to be portrayed, I realized that this statement is simply what many people in this society try to gain: A place where equality and kindness prevail. Now that I actually thought more about the meaning of the statement I think that this statement means a lot to me because it’s what we as a people want to reach in our lifetimes.

Xavier’s mission is especially important to Xavierites because it instills in us, as young people preparing for the rest of our lives, that it is our duty as the future population to be leaders in that we will guide the rest of the society to success in forming a more “just and humane society”. As a XavieriteI believe that we all posess that drive to fulfill this mission and to make our society a more equal and organized place to live in. This mission is important to the alumni and the university itself. It is important to the alumni because they serve as examples right now on what to do to carry out Xavier’s mission. Even though they don’t currently attend the school, they are still Xavierites and I believe it is their duty to lead the current Xavierites to success in fulfilling the mission. Xavier’s mission statement is important because it gives them a framework of what and how they should be instructing us in order to cultivate successful leaders in the community.

Starting now and continuing throughout my future I plan to support and fulfill this mission by first of all simply using the “Golden Rule”, and treating others the way I would like to be treated. As I go and fulfill my duties and career, I will carry myself in a manner that I will serve as a representative of what Xavier stands for. Xavier upholds its mission by selecting the finest and brightest young minds to attend this school so it can make us think outside of the box on how we can change the world for the better.

XuLa’S MiSsIoN

Posted by Brittany Tripp on September 12, 2008

Xaviers mission means alot to me. To me, Xavier has more to offer than any of the other schools I was considering going to. Not only does Xavier offer an education, but they want to make their students leaders. I like the fact that Xavier is trying to prepare us to be proffesionals at what we plan to do, and also to be leaders when we go out and face the world.

When I was getting ready to start college, my main goal was to just make good grades, but after reading the mission, I want to do more than that. I want to be successful in life, and be a leader to others. I feel that Xavier has more to offer, and that they want to help anyone that is willing to do something with their life. This school gives back to the community through community service, and that is part of what Xaviers mission is about. I realize that not many other people have this great opportunity to be a student at Xavier, so im going to take advantage of everything Xavier has to offer. I really do believe that the students and alumni of Xavier University is going to make a change in society. We as students right now need to remember this mission as we go through life and try to make a change within our community. If we become successful leaders, the people that look up to us will try to make that same change.

Xavier’s Mission Statement

Posted by Kia Wilson on September 12, 2008

The schools mission to me means that it is not just a place where someone goes to get an education. You do recieve an education at Xavier but its more than that. The mission was built around the people who attend Xavier and the community it is located in. I also look at the mission as a foundation that Xavier has been built upon since the time it opened many years ago. I think fellow Xavierites should be proud of what Xavier stands for because over this peroid of time those who have come before us have added something special to this mission. This is why Xavier is such a well respected university.

I feel that a mission is a task that must be completed with the help of someone or something and that is just what Xavier is. The university itself holds up to the mission because if it didn’t, then Xavier would just be like other universities. I plan on upholding the mission by doing what is expected of me, which is graduating and becoming an important role model in people’s lives and my community. For many years now Xavier has upheld its own mission by having a high number of African American and other students graduate and continue on to medical school.

Xavier has a lot to offer, such as clubs, organizations, and study groups, to all of its students. With all of the programs and one-on-one help there is a lot that one can accomplish at Xavier. Xavier is very dedicated and wanting to help students who are willing to learn and achieve their goals in life.

Mission Statement

Posted by Freddie Williams on September 11, 2008

As a Xavier student the Xavier mission stands to me as my foundation for all that I do here at Xavier, from school work to clubbing with friends. It simply allows me to see that in order to be successful in life, and here at Xavier, I must always strive for excellence in all of my endeavors. It shows me that in order to be successful intelligence alone does not suffice. One must be versatile and excel in all aspects of life. Basically, one starts helping themselves by first realizing that helping others stands as their next priority.

Students often misunderstand the important factors of life and feel that their main purpose should be ONLY to make good grades, graduate and get a good job and make good money. Xavier’s mission explains that students are expected to be groomed into outstanding members of the community who really makes a different in today’s society. So, students today should embark on a journey where the Xavier’s mission statement exists as the backbone of how they will use their time spent here at Xavier. So yes, get good grades; yes, help others succeed as you will; and yes, help make our world a better place for everyone. Thus, when your time as a Xavier student expires and your life as a Xavier alumnus begins take our mission statement as another principle that you base your daily attitude. Live your life remembering that Xavier, according to our mission, excepts you to contribute all the good to the World that you possibly can!

XULA MISSION

Posted by Chris Le on September 11, 2008

“To promote a more just and humane society.” is a small statement but means a lot.  That’s Xavier’s mission.

Xavier gives people an education and an opportunity to become more developed in society and is dedicated to helping people give themselves a better way of living in the future and also giving them stepping stones on their way up into being in the real world.

Xavier’s mission is important to Xavierites because it gives the students the motivation to excel and succeed in what they what to do.  The reputation of the school is the reason why many students want to attend the school.  It’s known for it’s medical field and it’s challenges that it gives its student through their years attending, preparing them for the real life’s work ahead of them.  To the alumni, they come and share their experiences of their life after attending Xavier and speaking about how much the school has helped them developed in the real world and sharing their ways of life and how they live today and hoping that it can influence many students to come out to be as successful as they are.

To uphold this mission, Xavier gives itself in full to its students.  The faculty and students giving up their time to help other student succeed.  The school provides many programs for student to better understand what their going to get themselves into and about their classes.  Tutoring and study rooms are offered to that the students can have a quiet surrounding to focus on their work.

I myself, along with many students I’m sure, are here to succeed and to spread the word of the good works and preparation Xavier has to offer and to better the reputation of the school once finished with everything.

Xavier University’s Mission Statement

Posted by Alexis Johnson on September 10, 2008

As a Xavierite, our mission statement is our backbone. We, as scholars, should represent our mission statement by being appreciative of the dedication from our president down to the janitors. This enlightenment in many of my following classmates’ and mine hearts show that we have the trust and respect for our Xavier leaders. We believe by listening and learning from them we can make our own foot print into success. The main focus here as freshmen and all Xavierites should be, “Now that I have made to this level, how can I make this experience better for my community, family, but most of all myself?”
I would try our best to devote myself 100% so I can be living proof that dreams do come true! Xavier can help me make a goal into a life long achievement. By managing my time, measuring my time, and balancing measuring my needs and wants, I can be able to make it here. When being said that I should be involved in the community, I should take it more than me maybe doing something I do not want to do, but step one of moving forward.  This mission statement is our guideline to success. It is obvious because look at how long they maintain and kept their representation. I do not want to mess any of that up for them or myself.
I do not believe I will fail, but I do believe my limits will be tested. With my “new and improved” backbone I believe that this school was made for students like me!

Xavier Mission: To me, Xavier’s mission means everything.  To have a school that is not only willing, but dedicated to teaching its students, increases our success rate.  I think the mission is important to Xaverites, because it give them an expectation to exceed, or atleast meet.  By setting a goal, it encourage us to want to succeed.  The mission to the university means everything.  The reason for this is because it is the very foundation that the school was established for.  This mission, give Xavier a reason to exist.  Once you become an alumni, everything of the school, become inseperable with you.  I think the mission mean more to the alumni than any other students on campus.  This is the same statement that allowed them to preservere the long years that stood before them.  I imagine myself upholding the mission by first doing everything neccessary to ensure that i graduate in the class of 2012.  By maintaing my grades, playing the role of a true Xaverite.  I can see myself supporting the mission of Xavier by encouraging my friends to become a possitive image in society by helping in community service and other school activities.  To me, the only time you fulfill your school’s mission is by graduating from it.  All I can say that if its possible to graduate, which I know it is, I wont let anything stop me.  Xavier does everything possible to uphold it mission.  By being invloved with the community, helping its students, being an active school and lastly caring about the student body’s success, it does more than uphold the mission.  It has set a whole new standard. Xavier is the “BEST,” and that’s why I am here

A Xavierite’s Expectations

Posted by Joi Martin on September 9, 2008

After reading Xavier’s mission statement, I am enlightened on what my duties are as a Xavierite besides just making good grades, upholding a satisfactory GPA, and working toward graduating.  Now I have yet another goal to achieve and I have more responsibilities to handle.  I realize that Xavier has set standards for me to live up to and I am required by all means to meet those expectations.

It is important for us Xavierites to understand the mission of our university because we are a reflection of what is being instilled into our minds.  We should be a walking representation of what quality education, hard work, and serving a community can produce.  Every student should be proud to say that they are a Xavierite and in saying so, we must make ourselves proud for attending such a prestigious university.  Xavier students make the reputation of this school and it is our priority to maintain a positive status.

To ensure that I am a productive individual and properly symbolize Xavier, I will dedicate myself to accomplishing every objective placed in my path.  All aspirations I have set seem so faint before but Xavier is constantly changing my dreams to reality.  I could not have made a better decision than coming to Xavier because everyone is placed on track starting from day 1.  Without a doubt, this is an institution of higher learning and this university is known for producing the best of the best.  Because of Xavier, I am more confident in entering adulthood.

The XULA Mission

Posted by Kirsten Smith on September 9, 2008

Xavier’s mission statement is the promotion of a more just and humane society. Xavier University is Catholic and historically black. I feel that being an Xavierite is a privilege and in the future I will make a change in society. Xavier focuses on academic excellence and creating leaders for the society. Xavier has taken many alumni and placed them in graduate, medical, pharmacy, and other schools. The university is also big on helping others through community service which is very important to me. I love to be able to help others in any kind of way I can. Xavier upholds its mission by making us believe that we can succeed in whatever it is we want to do, and also has a very good faculty that is willing to help their students to reach their goals. To uphold the mission I will be the very best student that I can and study so that I can make the grades that I want. I will take advantage of the free tutoring if I need it and all of the other resources provided. Xavier upholds the mission by having the best professors teaching us and also has smaller classes so it is easier to get to know your professor. Xavier upholds its mission to prepare its stdents for whatever it is they want to do in their future.

Updated XULA Mission

Xavier’s mission states, “Xavier University of Louisiana is Catholic and historically Black. The ultimate purpose of the University is the promotion of a more just and humane society.  To this end, Xavier prepares its students to assume roles of leadership and service in society. This preparation takes place in a pluralistic teaching and learning environment that incorporates all relevant educational means, including research and community service.” To me Xavier’s mission is important and I think every student should know it because it reminds us what an excellent university we attend. It starts off by saying “Xavier University of Louisiana is Catholic and historically Black,” which is very unique to begin with. I did not always know I wanted to go to a historically black college but now that I do, I feel like I made the right decision. Giving back to the community is a big part of what Xavier is about. I have done my share of volunteering but there is always more that can be done. I am sure that while at Xavier I will get the opportunity to give back. Whether it’s tutoring little children or visiting elderly people at retirement homes.

This mission statement is important to Xavier because it let others who might not know what Xavier stands for know exactly what Xavier is all about. It also gives those who attend or work at Xavier something to believe in and look forward to everyday. Xavier continues to uphold this statement by opening its doors everyday and producing successful people in the particular fields who carry on the Xavier name.

Hello, Everyone

I feel that Xavier is trying to help anyone that wants to be something in life. Like help graduating senior students go to medical school, dental, grade school, etc. Xavier has a loving, caring, and heart-warming atmosphere. You get to know the students, especially the Teacher’s. I love that we can get to know the teachers better and they get to know us more. Sothe teachers, and students can be on the same page. I feel that I will keep the mission going strong because of my education is a big part of my life. Being a Xavierite is the best thing in the world. I feel like I belong somewhere with loving people in my university community. I know that the Alumni at this school is proud to be a Xavierite because this school is one of the only almost all black catholic university in the nation.  Xavier has the most students that graduated enter school’s and finish for a Master’s Deagree.   I believe that the university feels that we will succeed and accomplish what we came here for to Xavier. To get our Bachelor’sDegree to go to big and better school’s to get our master’s degree.   I think I will hold the mission up because after medical school I want to help at Xavier to teach Volleyball in the future.  I feel that Xavier does a good job upholding the mission. I don’t hear no complains about anything at Xavier at all. Not form students, teachers, not even alumni. I feel like Xavier is the Best University in the United States of America. Of Course Louisiana. Thank You for reading my blog.

Sincerely,  Sarah Wilson

Xavier’s Mission Statement!!!

Posted by Kristin Williams on September 9, 2008

Xavier University’s mission statement is very important to me as a student. It visualizes and depicts what a very successful and important individual I will become at Xavier. This statement is my extra backbone that keeps me motivated to succeed in college and life. It means that I will be able to trust and depend on Xavier to uphold this statement. I am reminded about the Pledge of Allegiance where I stand for what I know is right and Xavier’s mission statement is the right one to take a stand. Once I enter Xavier University walls I can feel the duties and responsibilities as an individual; just a reminder that I’m not only representing myself but the whole institution. The passion for learning will lead me to fulfill all my goals, as well as be a leader in society.  Xavier’s mission is important to Xavierites, for it makes up Xavier students and the statement is what they live up to in order to fulfill the goal as part of the Xavier community. The mission statement is important to the university and alumni because these are our founders and leaders who have made a way for this statement to succeed like it has today. Many alumni’s make up Xavier also so it shows how much they care about their college and what they have accomplished in life from Xavier’s mission statement. I plan to be the best student and take into consideration every sentence stated in the mission statement and take action.  I want to be just like many of our alumni who have taken the mission statement and followed it like it was a rule of law.  Xavier works hard to keep their mission statement alive. They provide so many extra means of learning and ways of helping out the community. It is very uplifting for someone to ask what university or college you went to  and you say “Xavier University” and they have a look in which it shows extreme respect. For they know that only leaders have stepped foot out of Xavier doors of success.

The XU mission

Posted by Rachael Flores on September 9, 2008

About Xavier’s mission….I think making the world a better place, through the promotion of a more just and humane society, is definately a good thing. Carrying on St. Katharine’s dream is a win-win situation for everyone involved.

It is important (or should be important) to Xavierites because it makes us more well-rounded than we might be if we would have attended school elsewhere. If it was not for the mission, some of us may not have even gotten the chance to be involved in such a great opportunity.

It is important to the University because it has a reputation to live up to. When people attend Xavier, they know they can get a quality education and be able to serve the community around them.

It is important to the Alumni because they are proud of the legacy they left behind and they know that they, too, have left their mark in the mission and can continue doing so.

I can see myself in a role of leadership and service through work in the pharmacy and caring for my patients like I would want to be cared for. I will strive to treat them base on true needs and not just like another prescription to be sold.

Xavier upholds this mission partly through community service. I think community service is a good way to make people realize things about the world around them that they might not have otherwise encountered. I think that any type of community service is good as long as it meets a need and someone has a smile on their face at the end of the day. Even if it is not something that I particularly like to do, it will make me happy that I made someone else happy.

The End.

Xavier’s Mission

Posted by Angelica Wilson on September 9, 2008

The mission statement for Xavier University of Louisiana is that Xavier is Catholic and historically Black. “The ultimate purpose of the University is the promotion of a more just and humane society. To this end, Xavier prepares its students to assume roles of leadership and service in society. This preparation takes place in a pluralistic teaching and learning enivornment that incorporates all relevant eduacation means, including research and community service.”

What the statement means to me is that Xavier prepare us to assume roles of leadership and service in sociey so that we may become facilitators of social change.  I believe that in the future we,the Xavierites, will make a change in society. The Xavier Alumni’s will lead the way for the path that we now have to take.  A path that may take awhile to reach but with the help of Xavier’s professors and our family we can get through anything.  The students at Xavier will be educated in a major field so that they can go to graduate school and to succeed in life.  Also Xavier lives it mission, focusing on justice for all by preparing its students to be leaders with a strong spiritual and moral foundation.   I plan on upholding the Xavier Mission by performing service and showing leadership in the community.

Xavier’s Mission Statement

Posted by Jamaan Kenner on September 9, 2008

“Xavier University of Louisiana is Catholic and historically Black. The ultimate purpose of the University is the promotion of a more just and humane society.  To this end, Xavier prepares its students to assume roles of leadership and service in society. This preparation takes place in a pluralistic teaching and learning environment that incorporates all relevant educational means, including research and community service.” This is a very great objective that we as a black community definitely need.  With all the negative things going on in the black community here in New Orleans, its great to have a historically black college to go to that is one of the finest institutions in the country. To me, this is giving students from all over the chance to become the best person that they could possibly be. “The ultimate purpose of the University is the promotion of a more just and humane society” may be the most powerful quote of the entire statement.  We as Xavierites have the duty to take full advantage of the opportunity that we have been given.  Alumni have a duty to put the things that we learned into action.  We must make decisions that not only better ourselves, but that can also make the world a better place. Personally, I will uphold this statement by becoming a graduating from medical school and giving the community the best possible healthcare that I could possibly give.  Xavier upholds this statement by giving its students the best possible education that it can in a diverse atmosphere.

Xavier’s Mission and Me

Posted by Roseanna Desiree Jessup on September 9, 2008

I read Xavier’s mission statement over and over again so that I could try and feel exactly what it means to me. I’ve come to realize just how close Xavier’s mission is to my own, how important it is to me.

There was a time when, when someone asked me what I wanted to do, I would say “make a difference.” That simple. As a matter of fact, this was not that long ago. I didn’t know exactly how, I just knew I wanted to have a positive impact on this world. Then I let someone tell me that, being just one person, there was no way that I could make a difference. I believed them.

Now, reading Xavier’s mission, I see that I, as a Xavierite, am the embodiment of what being here is all about. I am Xavier’s mission. I am here to grow and participate in this community. I am here to learn and accept my role in this world as a leader. I am here to take action, to take an action of servitude, to learn not to be afraid of helping others to improve our community, our society, our people, our world as a whole.

This university has and continues to fulfill its mission of promoting a “just and humane society.” The alumni are living this mission. The students are learning this mission. And we, all of us as Xavierites, we are this mission.

This may sound a bit romanticized, a bit corny, or whatever the case may be but, to me, this is real. This is truly how I feel about Xavier’s mission, my mission. This is as honest as I can get.

Xavier’s Mission…

Posted by Erin Gardner on September 9, 2008

Xavier’s mission to “promote a more just and humane society” gives me a feeling of pride and significance; I feel that being a Xavierite gives me the ability to personally make an impact on society.  Any Xavierite should be proud to partake in the positive progress and integrity of Xavier University.  Furthermore, being Xavier alumni should give anyone a feeling of exuberance to be affiliated with such a prestigious institution.  Xavier University upholds its mission through its dedication to educating its students not simply in their field of study, but in the practice of righteous achievement and moral responsibility that one must accept and execute in order to achieve success.  The Xavier staff and administration take on the duty of informing its pupils of the significance of eliminating dishonesty, preventing ignorance and indolence, and motivating students to put forth 110% effort to become outstanding citizens that will make a difference and set the motion of extensive prosperity.

I firmly believe that Xavier is an asset to the community and to the city of New Orleans as a whole.  One person can make a difference; however, the Xavier family together can make an impact that can jump start society onto a path of moral and ethical amelioration.  I will personally put forth an effort to represent Xavier as an upstanding student and citizen and to carry its mission with me throughout my life to serve as an inspiration to both myself and others, and to step up to the plate and leave my mark on society in the name and standards of Xavier University.

Christina’s Views on XULA’s Mission

Posted by Christina Houston on September 9, 2008

Before reading this topic, I never took the time out to really think about Xavier’s mission.  Xavier’s mission is to promote a more just and humane society.  I think of this mission in terms of discipline.  At first, I was a bit overwhelmed by the classroom rules, campus rules, and dormitory rules and thought of some of them as unnecessary, but as I reflect on the purpose of Xavier University, it all ties in with creating a more humane society. The rules are put in place to show us how to carry ourselves as respectable individuals even after we graduate.  I realize that the rules are in place to better us as Xavierites.

The mission is very important because of all of the aspiring medical doctors and professionals that Xavier’s produces.  With a mission like this, how can Xavier go wrong?  I believe that is why Xavier University is number one in sending the most African Americans to medical school.  Have you ever heard of the saying practice what you preach?  That’s exactly what Xavier does.  They instill all of their morals and values into us as students, therefore, most of us are successful.

Xavier upholds this mission by challenging us to become the best in our field of studies.  They stress things such as community service.  Before attending Xavier, I always knew that giving back to the community was important, but now I really see that it is all a part of Xavier’s bigger plan for making every one of us triumphant.

After graduating from this institution, Xavier expects us as alumni to make our society better.  Personally, I plan to give back through my profession and help others just as Xavier has helped me.

Xavier Mission..

Posted by Hai Tran on September 9, 2008

The mission statement states, “To promote a more just and humane society.” thats what Xavier represents and aims for. A simple quote that can mean so much…

In today’s modern society, it is really chaotic, war and fights here and there, murder and robberies everywhere. We know it goes on and we know it happens everyday, but I think the point of the mission is to get together and do something about it. We are to create a more humane society for everyone, to work OUR best so we can give the best to the people.

Coming to Xavier is one step towards a goal that leads us into a more humane society. Xavier in itself is a very renowned college for putting African-Americans into Medical Schools, which is very superb, but it also has one of the greatest pharmacy schools in the United States and before that a strong undergraduate curriculum that gives any student an edge to become someone they want to become. To me, opening up the doors is what Xavier does, and the doors it opens is the ones of our future, to become who we want to be and for us to become those people, but in the hidden message of becoming someone that society benefits off of.

People say, “If only there were more of [insert name here], the world would be at peace”. You hear that all the time, so to me our goal should be “If there were more people following Xavier’s message, then the world might be a bit more at ease”…Work towards that goal, strive towards that certain achievement and finish you time at Xavier. Then become someone that society can benefit off of. Its like lending a hand, a good deed you do is one that someone might remember for the rest of your life, you give them a dollar, they become wealthy off that dollar, then they’ll give someone else something. To me its a cycle of a sort, people learn off of other people…so teach and learn off of one another.

XULA Mission

Posted by Morgan Weber on September 9, 2008

As I first look upon the Xavier mission, I see a bunch of pretty words to impress those who may happen to stumble upon them, but as I give it more thought, I see the truth in those words because it sums up the reasons why I came to Xavier.  The Xavier mission means to me “why people come to Xavier”.  The reasons either include going to a Catholic college, going to a Black school and furthering their education, but some go to Xavier to  grow into young men and women with leadership and service which is stated in the mission itself.

The mission is important for Xaverites because it tells others about who they are and what they represent.  It instills pride and dignity in the student and allows the student to set goals for themselves to establish “a more just and humane society.”

Also, the XULA mission statement is important to the university and alumni because it represents them.  It is important to the University because it tells others what kind of students is attending or will be attending Xavier University.  It shows the expectations that the university holds and what Xavier has to offer at the same time.  Therefore, the mission statement is campaign for Xavier University.  As for the Alumni, the mission tells others of who they are, for they have already completed the expectations Xavier has held for them.

I plan on upholding the Xavier mission by performing service and showing leadership in my community.  I plan on doing this by volunteering at hospitals  and continuing to assist in dance classes.  In addition, I will fulfill the mission by continuing to pursue education while treating everyone with respect.

Lastly, Xavier upholds its mission by instilling in its students leadership, education and service which are all part of the Xavier mission statement.

Xavier’s Mission

Posted by Mychelle Williams on September 9, 2008

Coming to Xavier I was very much involved with using my abilities to be a service to the community whether it was feeding homeless, tutoring, donating clothes to those without, or even food. Therefore, when I chose Xavier it was with the mindset that this school is for the betterment of the community using service and its top-notch facilities to produce the most successful doctors and what have you. The goal is to help us the students to grow, mature and learn how to be the best possible people in our fields. To be the best husbands or wives, or the best friends, or the best mothers or fathers, but primarily to be the best students. The curriculum is challenging and I have heard more than enough graduates of Xavier say how this class was so important or that class is really proving to be beneficial to them now that they’re in medical school. Hearing those testimonies inspire me, to one day come back and share my words of wisdom with the timid new freshmen. So far, my experience at Xavier has made me more excited about how I can and will affect this school, my city and on a larger scale the world.

Neisha’s Mission

Posted by Corneisha McCorkle on September 9, 2008

When I decided to come to Xavier I didn’t realize exactly what I was getting myself into. No, not the work load or anything like of that nature, I knew that was coming. I didn’t fully realize what being a Xavierite meant nor what would be expected of me. “Promoting a more just and human society”. By becoming a Xavierite St. Katherine Drexel’s vision became my mission, your mission too. We aren’t just here to better ourselves. We are also here to help better our community, our government, and so much more. In just seven words Xavier’s mission, the one which we all have undertaken, challenges us to leave our footprint. Whether that footprint be volunteering at a homeless shelter or adopting a road even. The very first day we came to Xavier what were our peer deans encouraging, if not pushing, us to do? Besides coming to the flag group meetings people. They were pushing us all to participate in the Community Plunge that Saturday morning. We can make a difference just by participating in the activities here on campus. Something, anything that will improve upon the world and make it just that much better for those coming behind us.

As we all move forward, see you guys at graduation, not only will we be taking a degree away with us, but the Xavier mission and the responsibilities that come with it. As alumni we will be faced with the challenge of ameliorating our society on a larger scale. It may sound like a difficult task to undertake, but Xavier is just the right institution to prepare us for that road that so few travel.

Xavier’s Mission

Posted by Bechi Okwumabua on September 9, 2008

Xavier’s mission focuses on the influence of service in the community as a means of developing and improving society and the human condition. I believe this is why Xavier’s reputation of succesful medical students is so exemplary. At Xavier, there is a foundation that is set. During this first week of school I have found one thing in common with the majority of my teachers. They hold each students’ success in their best interest. And not only do they desire to see each student do well in school, they also encourage them to go out into the community and spread their knowledge, care, and concern for others and our surroundings. These steps are taken to create that more just and humane society mentioned in Xavier’s mission. My English teacher, Dr. Dorris, is one of those teachers that encourages introspection. With this self-evaluation, I, and others are able to better understand our individual purpose as educated students and persons of the universe. From here, he tells his students to share our knowledge and abilities with society in order to better our world. Dr. Dorris says, if we go these fours years through college without giving back to the community and opening up ourselves  to growth and better understanding of the human condition, then we have failed ourselves as scholars. Although his method of teaching is rather random at some points, his intentions reflect the Xavier mission because he conveys the idea of taking responsibilty for oneself and using the knowledge we learn here to better our community. The professors at Xavier, from what i know of so far, all share this intention. They desire to prepare us to make a difference in society by taking leadership and giving back to the community. Here at Xavier, the whole idea centers around improving the world.
